A 44-year-old man lost his eyeball and chunks of flesh after he was attacked by his neighbour’s two pitbulls while walking to his home in Tenance Park, KZN, on Sunday morning.

According to Reaction Unit South Africa, they responded to the scene where the gruesome attack happened after they were called by residents who witnessed the attack as it happened at about 1 minute past midnight.

On arrival at the scene, Appalsamy, the victim, revealed that he was returning home after visiting a friend when he was attacked by his neighbour’s pitbulls, which jumped over the driveway gate and attacked him.

Appalsamy further revealed that when his friend tried to assist, the dogs bit him on his arm and leg. Witnesses on the scene revealed that the victim was attacked by the dogs for approximately 20 minutes before they were removed by the owner.

“The injured male lost his left eyeball while chunks of flesh were ripped off his arms, legs, and body,” said RUSA’s spokesperson, Prem Barlim.

Speaking with RUSA, residents also revealed that this was not the first time the dogs attacked someone. It was revealed that the dogs had also attacked the victim’s 73-year-old mother in one of the previous attacks.

“She allegedly laid criminal charges against the owner, and the matter is currently being addressed in court.” “Reaction officers could not immediately confirm this information,” said Barlim.

Appalsamy and his injured friend were transported to Osindisweni Government Hospital (OGH) for urgent medical attention, and he remains in critical condition.
