Eastern Cape- A 42-year old iNgquza Local Municipality councilor and his 18-year old son were shot dead at their home in Slovo Park on Friday (16 September 2022).

 

It is said that on Friday night, at about 20:30, two unknown men stormed into the house of the councilor and opened fire. The report further states that the suspects fatally shot the councilor’s son and the councilor, who later died in the hospital.

 

The councilor’s 8-year-old daughter managed to escape unharmed. The police have since launched a 72-hour activation plan and the motive for the murder is still unknown. Police are also currently investigating 2 cases of murder.

ANC angered after its councilor was shot dead.

According to a publication by the SABC, the ANC in the Eastern Cape has expressed shock and sadness over the brutal murder of its councilor.

 

“We are angry at the senseless killing of one of the most dedicated and hard-working councillors in the province. “Our hearts are with the Ranayi family. This is a tragic loss for the family, ANC, the community of Lusikisiki, and Ingquza hill municipality,” said EC provincial spokesperson Gift Ngqondi.

 

The police have since requested anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact them on their crime stop number 08600 10111 or alternatively use the MySAPS app.
