In just a matter of hours after announcing that it would escalate loadshedding to Stage 5 from 4, Eskom has implemented stage 6 loadshedding effectively. Stage 6 loadshedding was implemented this morning effectively at 04:16 following the tripping of generating units each at Kusile and Kriel Power stations. Stage 6 loadshedding comes hours after the announcement of loadshedding stage 5 due to the breakdown of five generation units with a combined capacity of 2400 MW.

South Africans react to Stage 6 loadshedding.

Angry South Africans have since taken to the comments section of Eskom’s announcement post to express their anger regarding loadshedding, with one user saying that Eskom must go as it is totally “incompetent” and they are tired of their excuses. “The sooner the people of South Africa accept that Eskom is another useless entity, the better for their well being,” said Loyiso Makunga. Yolandi Nabal said, “Incompetent!!! Why wasn’t maintenance done?” We have to keep paying the high prices but we almost never have electricity, not to talk about appliances that start to break down due to this”.
