Young but outstanding, 22-year-old Dimakatso Lekola gets recognised with a Top Outstanding Young Persons (TOYP) by Junior Chamber International (JCI) South Africa.

The final year law student at the University of Pretoria who found a solution to matriculants’ problems was given the prize under the Humanitarian and leadership category. Lekola was one of ten young people under the age of 40 to be recognised with the prestigious award.

Speaking with IspotDaily, Lekola revealed that receiving this award has filled him with immense accomplishment. He also acknowledges that the support he got in his journey contributed to where he is right now.

“It is with great pride and honour that I share the news of being awarded the Humanitarian and Leadership accolade by TOYP and JCI South Africa. This recognition as the Most Outstanding Young Person, alongside the privilege of being among the top 10, has filled me with an immense sense of accomplishment.”

“However, I would be remiss not to acknowledge a unique aspect of this achievement, one that adds another layer of significance to this momentous occasion. As I stand before you today, I am acutely aware that I am one of only two males in the top 10 honourees and the sole black individual among the entirety of South Africa’s deserving young minds. This distinction carries with it a profound weight and a renewed commitment to the cause I hold dear,” he said.

Lekola was recognised for his work as the founder of the DK Lekola Global Education Institute, originally founded in May of 2022. Institute provides education services and has a Talent Space and a Mental Health and mentorship department.

“While this achievement is deeply personal, it is not just mine alone. It is the result of the collective efforts, unwavering support, and belief in the transformative power of youth that each one of you has contributed to my journey. Your encouragement, guidance, and unwavering belief in my potential have fueled my drive to make a positive impact in South Africa and beyond,” said Lekola.

“Today, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to my family, friends, mentors, and the incredible organisations and communities that have stood beside me. Your belief in me, your investment in my growth, and your unwavering support have been instrumental in my ability to reach this milestone. You have empowered me to dream bigger, work harder, and remain steadfast in the face of adversity,” he added.

Lekola has also reflected on his journey to where he currently is; looking back at his upbringing in a village in Limpopo, he never felt like he would be at this level today.

“As I reflect upon this recognition, I am reminded of the immense responsibility it carries. This acknowledgement serves as a reminder that we are the architects of our destinies and the catalysts for change. It is now my duty, as a recipient of this esteemed honour, to leverage my platform and continue making a positive impact on the lives of others, particularly those who have been marginalised and face unique challenges.”

“The journey ahead is rife with opportunities and obstacles alike. Yet, I am emboldened by the knowledge that I do not walk this path alone. Together, we can redefine what it means to be a leader, to be an agent of change.”

“In addition,coming from rural villages, I never thought I could be recognised as one of the youngest leaders in the country, so that has acted as a reminder to me that I am on the right direction. I felt so much closer to reaching my full potential,” he concluded
