The leader of the Democratic Alliance, John Steenhuisen, delivered a speech on the Moonshot Pact, a coalition of opposition parties aimed at defeating the ANC and keeping the EFF out of power in the 2024 election.

Steenhuisen expressed concern over loadshedding, corruption, and service delivery failures in South Africa, and called for unity among opposition parties to form a pre-election Moonshot Pact. During a live broadcast to the nation, Steenhuisen urged all parties to put country before party and work towards a shared goal of unseating the ANC. “We cannot afford to let the ANC continue to drag our country down. We need to come together and form a united front to defeat them in the next election,” he said.

So far, six party leaders have agreed to attend the National Convention for the Pact, while three have rejected the plea for cooperation. Steenhuisen acknowledged the challenges of bringing together parties with different ideologies and agendas, but stressed the importance of finding common ground. “We may not agree on everything, but we can agree on the need for a better South Africa. We need to put aside our differences and work towards a shared vision for our country,” he said.

Steenhuisen also highlighted the importance of keeping the EFF out of power, citing their divisive rhetoric and lack of commitment to democracy. “We cannot allow the EFF to gain any more ground. They are a threat to our democracy and our way of life,” he said. The Moonshot Pact aims to create a united opposition front to challenge the ANC in the 2024 election. The pact will focus on key issues such as corruption, service delivery, and economic growth, and will work towards a shared vision for a better South Africa.

Steenhuisen ended his speech by calling on all South Africans to join the Moonshot Pact and work towards a brighter future for the country. “We have a choice to make. We can either continue down the path of decline under the ANC, or we can come together and build a better South Africa. The choice is ours,” he said.
