Former Finance Officer, Cornelia Johanna Faasen, 35, was charged with stealing over R4 million after appearing at the Pretoria Commercial Crimes Court on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, after handing herself over.   According to reports, Faasen was a finance officer at a fleet chain company, where she handled payments. The Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation in Pretoria then discovered that Faasen had stolen money from a trust account. “It is alleged that from March 2018, Faasen started to manipulate the system by adding her own banking details to beneficiaries’ accounts during payment authorization,” said Warrant Officer Bonnie Nxumalo.   The company is said to have lost over R4 million, and the inconsistencies were discovered in March 2021. An internal investigation was conducted, and a case was opened and assigned to the Hawks for further investigation.   Cornelia was released on R5000 bail, and the case was postponed to March 14, 2023.
