Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, said that the total number of deaths in the Boksburg tanker explosion could still rise as of today, December 30, 2022, with the death cases rised to 34.

Health Minister, Joe Phaahla confirmed the toll of deaths at the memorial service for other victims, which included 10 healthcare workers.

IspotDaily Previously reported that the tanker got stuck under a bridge and started leaking, resulting in a gigantic explosion that damaged private and public infrastructure and caused several fatalities.

Meanwhile, due to a lack of evidence, the driver of the tanker (number 32), which was discovered on December 24, was released from prison on Tuesday. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) stated that there is no evidence against the driver.
