Man assaulting a police officer in viral video arrested | Watch

A Gauteng man who was seen assaulting a police officer who confronted him about consuming alcohol in public has been arrested.   The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, went viral on social media, and in the footage, the man is seen subsequently assaulting the officer despite being told to stop.   According to SAPS’s spokesperson, Brigadier Brenda Muridili, the incident happened in Springs while two officers were conducting a routine patrol on Tuesday when they came across five individuals who were consuming alcohol in public.   When the officers warned the quintet about public drinking, one of the men is said to have gotten violent and assaulted the male officer.   In the footage, the male officer is also seen holding a firearm in his hand and does not retaliate when the suspect hits him.   The suspect was arrested later that evening and is expected to appear at the Springs Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, December 22, on charges of assaulting a police officer.
