An approximately 3-month-old baby girl was discovered in a bush after being dumped by her mother, who also left an apology note in Dawncrest, KZN.
It is said that a man who was picking mangos discovered the baby at the base of an embarkment next to a stream in the vicinity of a soccer court and contacted his employer, who called Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) to the scene.
In the apology letter, the mom explained that she spoke twice with social workers who delayed assisting her; hence, she dumped her baby. The woman also explained that she couldn’t abort her baby due to strict regulations in hospitals and that it isn’t “safe” to do so.

On arrival, Reaction officers were led to the scene and were handed the child and a bag, which was discovered next to the baby and contained nappies, a bottle of milk, and a pacifier.
“A female officer and medics were called to the scene and the child’s soaked diapers were changed. The baby was then fed with a bottle of milk,” said RUSA
The baby was examined and it was found that she was approximately three months old and was in good health. A criminal case of child abandonment will be registered, and RUSA is seeking assistance in finding the mother of the child.
This is a developing story and an update will be provided.
