Nelspruit – A 32-year-old jealous boyfriend, Tshepo Johannes Ngakane, was handed down a life sentence at the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court sitting in Delmas for the gruesome murder of his 29-year-old girlfriend, Ntombifuthi Sibeko, and the attempted murder of a 35-year-old man in 2020. It is said that Ngakane suspected that the man was having an affair with his girlfriend, which led to him attacking him on the 4th of March 2020 by stabbing him several times before leaving him helpless in the bushes. Four days later after this incident, he then proceeded to killing his girlfriend by stabbing her several times and she succumbed to his Injuries as a result. According to reports neighbour’s raised an alarm as they saw a 2 year old boy walking down the street with with blood stained clothes on the street.

The boy was identified and a follow up was made to his residence and discovered that the door was forcefully opened. Police were then called to the scene where they found the body of Sibeko lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds.

Police investigations led to the arrest of Kgagane on the 10th of March 2020, and he was charged with murder, attempted murder, and house breaking. He was found guilty on Monday and he was charged with murder, attempted murder, and house breaking. He was found guilty on Monday (August 29th, 2022) and was given a life sentence (5 years for housebreaking and 10 years for murder) yesterday, September 6, 2022.
“The brutal murder of the child’s mother has left a gap which will have a negative impact on the child’s growth as he will forever miss the love from his mother. Though we appreciate the harsh sentence that was handed down to the accused however this pandemic should come to an end. We plead with various sectors in the community to join hands with government in fighting the scourge” said Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphne Manamela.
