Two illegal miners arrested for murder, and 10 for assault | Gauteng

Gauteng- Two suspected illegal miners were arrested for murder while ten were arrested for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in Randfontein on Tuesday (30 August 2022).

It is said that police were conducting operations on illegal miners when they were alerted about vigilantism in Bhongweni, Randfontein. On arrival at the scene, police found and rescued two people being assaulted by ten (10) people who are suspected to be illegal miners. According to preliminary investigations, the two victims were alleged to have shot and killed another illegal miner in the early hours of the morning. All twelve suspects were then arrested. Read Also: KZN man raped and held captive for about two weeks. “Police arrested all twelve suspects and charged two with murder and ten with assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm. “The twelve suspects will also be processed by officials from the Department of Home Affairs as they are reported to be undocumented immigrants,” said Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo. The suspects are set to appear in court soon.
