KwaZulu-Natal – Three primary school pupils were killed and thirteen seriously injured after a minibus taxi ploughed into pedestrians due to brake failure on Thursday afternoon.
It is said that RUSA received a call from a frantic woman who informed them that she was a passenger in the taxi that overturned after it hit five pedestrians.
“On arrival, RUSA Members as well as Paramedics from the Provincial Ambulance Service, KZN VIP, the Ethekwini Fire & Rescue Services and members of the South African Defence Force (SANDF) worked rapidly to stabilise thirteen people who sustained severe injuries. Three primary school learners were fatally injured. One of the deceased was trapped under the wreckage of the overturned white Toyota Hiace. Firefighters utilised a high pressure lifting bag to elevate the taxi and remove the body of the child. ” RUSAAccording to witnesses the taxi was traveling down a steep road when its brakes failed and the driver is said to have veered off to a unpaved road when he hit five primary school pupils who were returning home.
