Gauteng – Police are looking for suspects responsible for the mass shooting incident that left 14 people dead at a tavern in the Nomzamo Informal Settlement, Orlando East.

It is said that in the early hours of Sunday at approximately 00:30 a group of armed men with 9mm pistols and riffles entered the tarven and began shooting randomly at the tavern goers who were sitting inside. A total of 23 people were shot in which 12 of them were declared dead on the scene and eleven were sent to a nearby hospital. Two more of the victims were later declared dead at the hospital. Gauteng’s Provincial commissioner of police Lieutenant General Elias Mawela has since condemned the incident and urged the team of detectives led by Deputy Provincial Commissioner: Crime Detection, Major General Mbuso Khumalo to pull out all stops in ensuring that the perpetrators are arrested and brought to book. The police have since requested witnesses and anyone with information about the incident that could lead to the arrest of the suspect to contact saps on the numbers below or leave a tip off on the My saps app.

In other separate tarven related shootings, four people also died in a Maritzburg tavern and two people also died in a Katlehong tavern.
