André de Ruyter, Eskom’s chief executive officer, has reportedly resigned as the group’s CEO.   According to News24, de Ruyter informed board chairperson Mpho Makwana of his decision earlier in the week, and Makwana then informed Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan.

De Ruyter took over as Eskom’s CEO back in 2019 on Christmas Day, and the recent performance of the state’s power company has led to him being heavily criticized, and the recent series of public attacks on him led by Mineral Resources and Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe may have led him to resign.   This is a developing story.
