Mpumalanga – 31 year old Lunga Matiwane was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the murder of 34 year old Spintjies Jantises at the Kriel Regional Court on Monday, 22 August 2022. It is said that at about 03:40 on the 6th of August 2017  the accused is said to have had an argument with the deceased’s brother after slightly bumping him with his vehicle.

It was then that the deceased tried to intervene between the two, but the accused failed to contain his temper. He drew out a knife  and stabbed Jantises in his chest and arm and as a result he collapsed. Police and Medical personnel were called to the scene and on arrival the found the body of Jantises lying in a pool of blood. He was certified dead on the scene and a case of murder was opened. According to reports, the suspect came to the police station to open up a case. He alleged that he was assaulted by Jantises and his brother, he was then arrested for murder. Mpumalanga’s Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela has since welcomed the sentence and appealed to community members not to resort to any form of violence should there be any misunderstanding.
