A 41 year old Zimbabwean Man living in Parkgate was allegedly robbed by two policemen in Durban Central on Sunday (10 July 2022). According to the Victim, he was in the vicinity of Game city when he noticed two police officers conducting their duties in the same area in a white city golf. Both officers had their firearms visible and stopped several people and produced Police Appointment Certificates identifying themselves as police officers.

It was then that they approached him in full view of the public and again produced identification. The victim further alleged that they asked him for a passport when they realized he was a Zimbabwean national. The victim then produced a South African ID and informed the officers that he had obtained South African citizenship in 2004. The officers then instructed him to get into their car and accompany them to a police Station to verify his paperwork. It is said that when the victim was seated in the vehicle the officers then demanded a fee for his release, but when he refused they drew firearms and demanded money. The victims informed the officers that he didn’t have money on him so the officers drove him Durban Beachfront where they demanded his ATM pin at gun point. One of the officers who is said to be Indian walked to the ATM with his face covered by a cap and withdrew R600 from his account. The second officer, a black male then robbed the victim of his cellphone, Bag of Raw nuts and wallet before releasing him. The man is said to have been threatened with if he reported the incident. Fearing for his safety he called RUSA for assistance. More updates on the story are yet to follow as this is still a developing story.
