A 42 year old woman was shot and killed in front of her two year old granddaughter at her home on Ginger Road, Waterloo on Saturday morning. Reaction Unit South Africa responded to the scene after receiving multiple reports of the incident. On arrival the body of the woman was found lying in a prone position on the lounge floor. “She sustained gunshot wounds to her head and abdomen, which resulted in her demise” said RUSA. It is said that her granddaughter was in the lounge at the time of the shooting while her 19 year old daughter and 24 year old son were in a bedroom.

According to the deceased’s daughter, she heard a man question her mother about the whereabouts of her children. She then left the bedroom and saw the suspect pointing a gun at her mother. The deceased screamed and asked her daughter to flee when the gunmen fired the shot. The siblings, then broke a bedroom window and climbed out of the house. The deceased’s daughter sustained a deep laceration to her left forearm from a broken glass. The shooter is said to have casually walked away from the house after the incident. The 19 year old didn’t recognize the shooter. The two year old granddaughter was not injured.
