KwaZulu-Natal – 38 year old kidnapper Sihle Magubane was denied bail at the Umbumbulo Magistrates Court.

It is said that Magubane and several other suspects kidnapped a man near Folweni on the 14th of June 2022. They tied up the man and blindfolded him at an unknown location.
“The victim was led to believe that the had also kidnapped his daughter and they would kill her if he didn’t provide his ATM card pin.” RUSA
It is said that the suspects then withdrew R10 000 in cash from the man’s account and withdrew the rest in the bank the following day after reaching the maximum daily withdrawal limit. It is said that on the 15th of June 2022 the gang transported the man to Moss Street in the Verulam CBD and told him to withdraw the remaining funds from a Capitec Bank. The man is said to have also noticed the driver and the number plates of the Ford Ranger and when he got inside the bank, he informed the bank teller that he believed that his daughter was held hostage.
“SAPS Verulam was contacted by a bank employee and police informed RUSA of the possible hostage situation” RUSA.
It is said that at about 11:54 on the very same day Sihle Magubane was arrested and the kidnap vehicle seized after RUSA’s officers and the Police kept an observation and converged on the scene. It is said that traditional Medicine was found on the suspect’s arm and the victim’s daughter was found Unharmed at her school. Magubane was remanded in custody at Westville Prison and is set to appear again in court on 24 August 2022.
