Gauteng – Two men aged 39 and 48 are set to appear at the Germiston Magistrates court on Monday ( 20 June 2022) for allegedly being found in possession of Rhino Horns.

It is said an Intelligence Driven operation was conducted by The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team in Germiston, Stock theft, Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC), and the Department of Environmental Affairs after receiving information about a vehicle revealing from Kwazulu natal to Gauteng with rhino horns.

Officers then intercepted the vehicle which had two occupants 48 and 39 in the east of johannessburg and searched the vehicle, Whilst searching, two Rhino horns concealed in the front part of the cars, it is also believed that the horns had been recently been extracted.

 

The two were arrested and  charged for dealing in rhino horns thereby contravening the National Environmental Management Biodiversity (NEMBA) Act.
